Andrea’s background in world-class music education is matched by two decades of experience in performance at the highest level. Having enjoyed a stellar career as a percussionist for a number of brass bands, including the world famous YBS and Black Dyke Bands, Andrea has won almost every major brass band competition, recorded numerous CDs, and toured the world as a performer. She is a highly respected adjudicator in the UK and internationally, held in esteem for her keen ear, outstanding analytical skill, and ability to inspire through her constructive and caring feedback.

 

She is also an extremely successful composer with a wide range of published and recorded works for brass band, alongside solo repertoire that features on a number of exam boards. She is sought after for commissions and has recently composed music for the Black Dyke Band, the Flowers Band, the National Children’s Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Her test piece, "I, Daedalus", was nominated for the 4barsrest "test piece of the year award" in 2025.

 

Andrea also has extensive conducting experience and enjoys project work as a conductor or musical director. She regularly conducts choirs, and has directed musical theatre productions and orchestral concerts as well as working with brass bands. She serves on the executive committee of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators and is a member of the Kapitol Promotions Music Panel, responsible for regional and national test piece selection.

 

Andrea manages to maintain her dedication to the brass band community whilst working as an Assistant Principal at the world-renowned Chetham’s School of Music. Beyond her professional life, Andrea finds joy in fiction (particularly anything involving sci-fi and fantasy), competitive board games, and discovering new places around the world.
